iPAQ3970 - PocketPC - 2002 premium edition

I have completed a hard reset following instructions. press two outer buttons and soft reset.
This then goes to set screen synch with the little cross moving around the screen it then goes to the next screen where it sayes. "Use pop-up menus to reschedule the following appoointment" and "Tap and Hold the 9A.M. dental appointment, and then tap Cut on the pop-up menu"

**** but there is no appointment to tap or anything else on the screen for that matter. ***

using the PC and Microsoft Active Sync I am able to browse the device. so what is missing what can I do?
