View Full Version : ANN: Review of iWindowsMobile EyePhoto
Clinton Fitch, MVP-Mobile Devices 06-30-2008, 09:47 PM With Windows Mobile devices coming with ever increasing quality of digital
cameras built into them, the need for applications to view those photos in a
quick and easy way has also increased. While the built-in Photos & Videos
application of Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 does a reasonably good job, it still
is somewhat stylus intensive. Fortunately the VITO Technology team has seen
this as well and has developed a truly easy to use, simple and finger
friendly - not stylus - application to meet the need - EyePhoto. EyePhoto
is available through VITO's iWindowsMobile division and is a simple but
effective photo viewing application. EyePhoto does not have any editing
tools built into it - it is strictly a viewer both of individual photos and
in a slideshow. That said however, it is fast and easy, turning any device
into a virtual photo album in a snap.

Werner \Menneisyys\ Ruotsalainen [MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices] 07-04-2008, 03:34 AM I only wish they fixed the major speed problems and the lack of efficient
use of memory (I told them to do so some 1.5 months ago upon reviewing
version 1.1). Until that, I stick with s2v as far as strictly
finger-controlled pic viewers / slideshowers are concerned.

Clinton Fitch, MVP-Mobile Devices 07-07-2008, 09:34 AM Werner,
I'd be curious as to what you found. I used v1.1 for several months before
actually writing this review and did not run into any speed or memory issues
(I'm assuming that is what you mean by "use of memory"). I had a wide range
of photo sizes - couple of hundred K to 4MB - and was able to open them all
relatively fast on a variety of devices I used to test - HTC Advantage, MWg
Atom Life, TyTN II....
Feel free to write offline if you want.
Thanks,

Werner \Menneisyys\ Ruotsalainen [MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices] 07-07-2008, 11:36 AM While it's certainly usable (and, in most respects - except for speed and
RAM usage efficiency -, much better than any of the swiping-capable
alternatives), it switches images much-much slower than s2v. Also, panning
around in zoomed-in mode is slow because it doesn't make use of the RAM
available (That is, it re-renders even previously rendered parts of images
if you pan back to there).
Then, I spoke to the IWiindowsMobile folks about fixing these issues; they
promised they'd look into it in a future release. This is why I've left it
out from my s2v review and only compared s2v to PocketCM ImageViewer; see
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/old_blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2639&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
and will only update the s2v review when a fixed version is out.
