View Full Version : Podcasts for PocketPCs?

What's a good site for free podcasts (videos) for PocketPCs?

I just downloaded a couple from a local network. But they were mp4s for iPods.
And for some reason they were full size at around 350 megs or 44mins. of video.
I had to use a converter to drop it back to around 50 megs for playing on the
PDA. The original mp4 format didn't seem to want to work.

I don't know why they made them so big if they're meant for iPods and the like.

The Core Player plays mp4s well.
http://www.coreplayer.com/

That is large. The mp4 files I've seen are around 35 MBytes.

Thanks, but I'm happy with Windows Media Player on the PDA.

Yes, I used a program called Super to reduce or reencode the MP4 file to a
PocketPC friendly AVI file of around 50 megs. Looks fine on the PDA, but in full
screen mode there are black bars top and bottom. Aspect ratio is correct though.
The channel's logo is a circle and it's round. In other modes it is elliptically
shaped.

Anyway, where do you source your free podcasts from?

Thanks.

I use iTunes on a desktop, then copy over the files. Only one is
visual; the rest are mp3.

I'm not in love with iTunes, but it works well enough. ActiveSync
drag&drop usually works well enough for copying the files. Sometimes I
put the micro SD Card in a USB stick, put that in my computer, and
copy files more directly (sometimes drag&drop, sometimes command
line).

They are not exclusionary... both can reside on the ppc and you can
associate only mp4's with coreplayer until you find out how bad wmp on
the ppc really is ;-)

OK, you convinced me. I'll download Coreplayer and give it a shot. See how it
goes with mp4s and avi files.

CorePlayer is great!
But you should know that it is not free.

Totally worth the money though.

On the otherhand, you could use opensource version TCPMP available at
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/

I'm pretty sure I couldn't get TCPMP to play mp4 files; that's why I
didn't mention it in my earlier post. And it may not work on some
platforms. I know it is not being updated. Otherwise, TCPMP is great.
