View Full Version : HTC TyTN II lacking display drivers, users considering class actionsuit
Voice 01-17-2008, 06:54 AM I'd like to point out an issue that has raised big concerns for many users
of Windows Mobile 6 on HTC TyTN II. According to some developers, the TyTN
II lacks (proper) display drivers, causing a significant lack of
performance while playing video files and using the touch screen. While
users might attribute this to WM6, it seems it's a problem not related to
WM6 itself.
Users are desperately trying to seek a solution, and with HTC Tech Support
unresponsive or at least unclear on what's going on, some developers are
trying to develop their own display drivers for TyTN II, based on
Qualcomm's (that's the chipset vendor) reference drivers. Other users are
considering a class action suit against HTC for underdelivering on the
phone.

Helio Diamant - MS-MVP/Mobile Devices 01-24-2008, 03:02 AM The fact that a device maker projects a device based on a chipset that can
provide a specific functionality doesn't mean that the device maker is
forced to use that functionality.
The functionalities of the chipset that are to be used are defined by a
series of constraints, that may include a large range of different
parameters. For example, would you like to have the display drivers active
in your device if they were to leave you with 8MB of free memory after HARD
RESET and drain your battery in 2 hours of use?
So, decision is not ALWAYS based on money, even if it can be a part of this
specific decision.
Anyway, due to all the above, I don't believe that filing 1,000 class action
suits will get one of them to be accepted by an honest jury.

Ah,
But when they imply, by their advertising and marketing, that said
devices do include functionality, with statements such as this:
"The MSM7500 for CDMA2000® 1xEV-DO Rev. A and MSM7200 for HSPA also feature
rich multimedia capabilities - such as VGA video encode/decode, 8 megapixel
camera, and 3D graphics - as well as advanced data functionality with
unsurpassed levels of integration. HTC will have launched more than 10
devices based on these two dual-core solutions from the Company's
MSM7xxx-series platform. Some of the devices already available include the
Mogul by HTC, HTC 6800, HTC 5800 and HTC TyTN II."
Corporations CAN NOT claim to have certain hardware and withhold its
capabilities without disclaiming.

Helio Diamant - MS-MVP/Mobile Devices 01-25-2008, 01:06 AM Now the question is who has advertised it. If it is at the HTC website or
HTC official material, I agree.
If it is at the material of some carrier, then the carrier is the one to
blame and not HTC. And if it is at some blog, then what can I say?
Where did you find this wording? I am interested in seeing it, since I have
been refraining to publish about this on PocketPCFreak until I find some
official HTC document that claims that the functionality is there.....
