Help!
I just installed XP Pro on my desktop, had to do a clean wipe of the hard
drive and re-install everything. When I've tried to re-install active sync
and get my iPaq 3955 re-connected I'm dead in the water.
I can install Activesync, but can't get the computer to recognize the mobile
device or sync the info from my ipaq to the desktop.
I was really dumb (I mean REALLY dumb!) and forgot to back up my Outlook
address/contacts so the iPaq is all I have to restore my contacts to
Outlook.
How do I get the XP Pro/Activesync 3.5 to recognize each other and get me up
and running again?
I know this has been dealt with before, but I couldn't find the thread.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Michael

I realize you got it going already, but this is worth sharing with others.
My iPAQ 1910 worked fine for about a week, then my PC suddenly could no
longer connect to it for syncing. I tried all sorts of things - upgrading
to ActiveSync 3.6, reinstalling the program, plugging in to a different USB
port, installing the program on a second PC. NOTHING would allow either PC
to connect to the 1910! The 1910 itself continued to work fine, I just
couldn't get my PC to see it for syncing purposes. I figured I was going to
have to return the unit for a replacement cord or maybe the jack had gone
bad on the 1910. Having bought it direct from HP, they requested that I
contact tech support before obtaining a return authorization number. So I
did that. Guess what the first question was that the tech support guy asked
me?
Yep, you guessed it, "Have you tried a soft reset?"
It took about 20 seconds for me to do that, hook up the USB cable for one
more try, and *Presto!*, that did the trick! I was SO glad I didn't go to
the waste of time of shipping the unit back!
Never underestimate the usefulness of trying a soft reset whenever ANY sort
of problem is encountered. Apparently the Pocket PC 2002 software can
occasionally "lose its place", and a soft reset fixes it quite nicely,
without messing up any of your data or anything.
