I have a need to permanently disable voice recording on a
pocket PC. Just disabling the record button does not do
a sufficient job. Do you know of any way to accomplish
this short of dissassembling the unit and removing the
microphone?

I dont think this is possible with a registry hack and even that would be
fixable.

Not sure your reason behind wanting to do this but you could delete the
"notes" link from the program and startup menus.

I suspect the navy.mil domain of the original poster is the answer -
presumably a device that can record audio is not allowed for security
reasons.

I think this really could be a case of having to physically remove the
microphone. However, before doing that, I suggest that the original
poster may like to contact the manufacturer of the Pocket PC in question
to see if they have an answer for the problem - presumably that will be
some kind of custom firmware.

I think that the only truly secure way is to remove the microphone
then have a paper seal that certifies it has been removed. You might
want to contact: http://www.ppctechs.com/ to see if they will offer
such a service.
