Why is it that there is no way to open Pocket PC psw and pxl files in Vista?
Device manager list that it supports Pocket PC 2003 Second edition
But I can’t get either Office 2007 or Office 2003 to open these files.
If I was in XP I'd have not problems
I feel let down my Microsoft. I have bought a new PC and it is all but
useless because I large part of my work happens on my Pocket PC in pocket
word (psw) and Excel (pxl)
A little backward compatibility would be wonderful.

Hi,
WMDC doesn't have any file convertors and Office 2007 doesn't support .psw
and .pxl format. WM 5.0 onwards Word Mobile & Excel Mobile save their files
in native desktop format and therefore the convertors are not part of the
WMDC setup.
You can open the files in question on your device and use Tools -> Save
Document As option to save them in the Word/Excel 97/2000 document format.
This should enable you to read your documents on the Vista PC. Note that
this will create copies of the original file in the new format.

You might also check to see if word on the desktop can open the pwi
files plus check your office installation process and see if the
converters might be installable from there to open the files using "file
type"

Yes that works
BUT with a couple of hundred files on my device I will run out of memory
given that files saved in this manner file become several times larger.
so it is not really an option

Move the files which are static (that don't need to be synced every
connect) to the memory card.
Users have been dealing with files in the old format since the ppc was
introduced with 8 and 16meg internal memory, so, even if there are more
files and those are large, there are options, even keeping them in main
memory.
I post the above as waiting for the ability to access the new file
format may not be an option, especially if you don't have a wm6 device
that is likely to receive an upgrade.
