View Full Version : Cing 8525 - Must soft reset to get PIE to work - Why?

SapperPest19

I have a Cingular 8525. On several occasions, I have tried
unsuccessfully to use PIE. PIE will start up and look like in has
loaded the page but PIE will display nothing. If I perform a soft
reset, PIE loads the page correctly. I've tried clearing the 'offline
files' but that did not help. Any ideas?

On a side note, when I upgraded WM, the opening sequence now displays
AT&T instead of Cingular. Part of the opening sequence is animated and
contains audio that sounds like planes flying of something similar. Is
there any way to silence the opening sequence?

If nothing else helps, consider switching to Opera Mobile. See my related

Is this happening while loading a particular website or each and every
page you try to access?

Each and every page.

Try running Welcome.exe. You will find this file in the Windows
Folder. This might not solve your problem or can try cleaning your
device using S-K-Tools lite. If not, I recommend a hard reset. As
you're probably aware, your device will restore to factory defaults,
thus losing all your data and settings. Make sure you have a good
backup. If you do not want to go through this, do as Werner said. Just
purchase Opera.

A hard reset really isn't an option at this point. I use PIE maybe
once or twice a week. As annoying as the problem is, it's not worth
the trouble of backing up the device, restoring it to original
configuration, reinstalling the apps, and restoring the data when a
soft reset fixes the problem. I'll look at SKTools and see if that
helps. If not, I may look at Opera or I may chalk it up to the
overhead of using a Microsoft product.

You might try disabling any active internet connection, particularly active
cellular connections, then restarting PIE. Alternately, make sure PIE is
not currently running using the Memory option under Settings, System. I've
seen cases where an active PIE will not correctly reactivate a cellular
connection when it's still active in memory.

I am running a task manager program and I know there are no instances
of PIE running already when this happens.

FWIW, I have lots of problems with web browsing when I'm running a task
manager on my Axim X51v. Problems with wireless configuration, problems
with browsers locking up. Sometimes tasks show up in the manager, but
not in the start/system/memory/running programs. Sometimes the other
way around...sometimes programs actually running and on screen show up
in neither place. Soft reset straightens it out temporarily.
I've taken to turning off task managers when I want to surf.
