View Full Version : "Unresolved Items"

For several weeks now when I've been synchronisoing my Pocket PC 3830, I've
been seeing under Files that I have 2 unresolved items. For each one I get
the message "Conversion failed. The system cannot find the file specified"

I've now worked out that it is referring to two spreadsheet files. I tried
creating two new workbooks on the Pocket PC and amending another and they
weren't synchronised either so that I now have 5 unresolved items.

Can anyone suggest why, after several years of synchronising .pxl files with
no problems, I am now unable to, and more importantly how do I get it
working again?

Check the file conversion settings in Activesync. I'm running AS 4.5
and under Tools - Data Conversion - Edit file type it is possible to
set the version is should be converted to. Verify that the settings
for Excel files is set to .pxl for both the pocket pc and PC.

Is there a possibility that the pc side files are in 2007 format? If
so, try editing them on the pc and saving them in an earlier format.

I'm still using v3.5, but found the "Conversion Settings" button. It
appears that while there is an entry for Pocket Word Documents, there is no
entry for Pocket Excel, and AFAICS there is no way of creating one. Perhaps
I should try re-installing the program to see if somehow I have managed to
delete it (although I can't see how).

Thanks for your reply Beverley, but I don't think this is the problem,
mainly because when i created a new workbook on the Pocket PC I wasn't able
to synchronise it with my PC.

3.5 is pretty old... which pc os and excel version are you running?

Think the converters are installed when you install activesync, so you
might try to reinstall async... but, way back then, the .pxl converters
might have come from the office/excel install.

I'm running XP SP2. I don't have excel installed on this computer - I'm
using Open Office Calc. I appreciate it's quite an old version of
Activesync, but I believe I read somewhere that the latest version won't
work with Outlook 2000. I could update this as well, but I don't think I
can justify the expense for the amount that I use it.

What I don't understand is that the converters worked until a few weeks ago,
so I think I'll try your suggestion of a re-install.

A re-install should help.
