I have an Axim X5 ppc2002 with Symbol LA4137 CF wireless card and life
is good.
I acquired an Axim X50 ppc2003se and plugged in the Symbol card. Loaded
the ppc2003
drivers. Life is still good until I power off the X50. The Symbol card won't
restart. I can remove/reinsert the card or do a soft reset to get it back.
Neither is acceptable.
I tried the socket drivers..same problem.
This is not a problem on the X5. Can't tell if it's a ppc2003se problem
or the new drivers.
Is there a way to get the Symbol LA4137 CF wireless card to power on
when I power on the Axim X50 ppc2003se?
Thanks, mike

Life was never that good with that Symbol card! ;-) I bought one factory
sealed on eBay for $20 or so several years ago when my Ambicom died for a
second time under warranty and they told me they were out of stock
(changing revisions) so it would take two months to replace.

Did they make 2003 drivers for that card? I remember that card giving me
fits when I upgraded my X5 from 2002 to 2003. I remember I had to get
the Socket drivers because I couldn't find the Symbol drivers.

It's been a while, but I remember the card worked much beter with the
Symbol/Socket Wireless configuration program installed instead of just
the driver (that might only be bundled with the PPC 2000/2002 drivers- if
so that's what I used.)

Doesn't the X50 have WLAN built-in? Could this just be a conflict? Or
was wireless an option on the X50?
I had the same problem with 2003 (not SE) but it wasn't every time.
Maybe once every ten powerups or so would require a removal/reinsertion
or a reset to wake the card.
A bigger problem I had even more often than the "no power" problem, was
that the card would decide to obtain a completely invalid address
(including alpha characters!) via DHCP and require several
removals/reinsertions to obtain a valid one. I was never happier than
when Ambicom finally replaced my "real" WLAN card! ;-) I did like the
low power consumption of the Symbol/Socket card however- the Dell ran a
lot longer with it than with the original Ambicom (the "rev. D"
replacement I eventually received, however, also consumed less power than
the original- it seemed about the same as the Symbol.)
Good luck!

They make a version with built-in wifi, this ain't it.
Or

I've been using the symbol card for over a year with the X5.
I've only had the X50 for a few days, but the card seems to work
flawlessly as long as I don't power it off.
Is there a utility that can force wince to re-initialize the CF (wifi
card) slot? I don't mind having to click something to turn it on.
I'm just worried about wearing out the socket if I have to replug the
card every time.
