I don't have the 740, I have the Maestro which is made by
Toshiba and a close relative to the 740 with less memory.
Here's my experiences with activesync and the usb cradle
for the device.
1. don't try to use it on a hub, connect it straight to
your motherboard usb ports or if you use a add in card
straight into the card; I had problems when the unit was
running off a hub.
2. Backup your device and do a full power down cold boot,
that sometimes fixes the problem for me, a couple of my
toys that I added drivers for and my mapopolis platinum
plus gps mapping software caused this for me and a reboot
fixed it (of course you restore after the reboot).
3. Completely uninstall activesync, the latest version is
3.6 which ms doesn't seem to have available in their
download section, I could only find it by using the url
link inside the activesync software. I've had to
uninstall and reinstall activesync several times, it seems
extremely sensitive to registry changes and several times
it's quit working after I installed some new software that
isn't even related to the pocket pc.
4. Activesync isn't perfect, it's a quirky little bugger.
I've got XP professional and this is the only thing I have
continual problems with.
I hope one of these things works for you. There is a
service package for pocket pc, Audiovox has it so I
imagine toshiba must have it too on their page, you may
also wish to look for that.
