View Full Version : Partial Sync Between PCs

This has been asked and answered before, but I have a small wrinkle I'd
like to ask about.

I am using a Sprint PPC6700 (WM5) for work (USB and Exchange). I am
syncing (AS 4.1) all contacts, calendar and two email folders (inbox
and one other). All is well for the past 6 months.

Now...I have recently purchased a new XP (upgrade from WME) and will be
migrating my Outlook Express to Outlook on the new machine. I want to
now sync my PPC to home, but only the calendar and contacts. I want to
continue to use home Outlook for personal email without mixing work and
home.

>From what I've read in this group, it seems like this will occur
without problem. My concern is that I sync with the work Outlook (PC
and Exchange) with the Inbox and another folder. Other responses in
this group seem to indicate that Inbox email will only sync with PC1
and not PC2. Am I to assume that ALL email folders will sync with only
PC1 and that PC2 will only sync my calendar and contacts?

Thanks in advance,
Chris
Nashville

p.s. if this seems dumb, please don't flame me.

Hi, Cris. I haven't tried what you're asking about, syncing to two PCs
and limiting what syncs on *one* of them, but if I'm not mistaken there
is no problem doing that.

PC1 has a partnership with the Pocket PC that is unique to PC1, and the
same goes for PC2. So the settings within each Activesync partnership,
i.e. name, sync options, etc are also unique.

Chris, I've tried it with 2 PC's , EXCHANGE at work and POP3 at home.
My PPC2003 was paired first with my work pc.
The work pc inbox sync's to the PPC.
Contact, Tasks and Notes sync ok between both.

Thanks for the reply.

I did just that. I now have PC, PC2 and exchange. When I set up the
relationship with the second PC it seemed to allow me to syn email. I
left that box unchecked and it seems to leave it alone. Right now I
can sync email with PC and exchange and sync everything else between
all three. It seems to work fine.

Thanks,
Chris

If your referring to Outlook Email Sync, you can only sync one email account
per PPC. I have it set up similar to you, except that I don't use my phone
for work only personal use, so my home PC syncs my email, and my work does
not. If I try to check off the email box for work it will say you need to
uncheck it for home to be able to use it for work, so only one at a time
(which it sounds like exactly what you want). You can do as many POP and
IMAP email accounts as you want (don't use exchange so I don't know about
that), it's just a matter of setting them up (well I don't think you could
do an infinite amount of accounts, I'm sure there are SOME limits.)
