View Full Version : My final setup...
Its taken me a little over a week with my PDA of installing stuff,
uninstalling, hard resets, backups and so on to finally get the
configuration of programs which I like.
Games - Mooregames(simple game collection), Soduko Rules (free with
magazine), Dames (interactive fiction book), all free
Mail - Flexmail (I buckled and bought it as outlook was giving me
nightmares - used 20% off for Handango)
Images - XnView (free)
Newsreader - Qunetsoft 3 (I bought the new version with 20% off)
Spanish Translation for holiday - Microsoft Reader and Pocket Translator
(both free inc dictionaries)
Video and music - WMP and BetaPlayer. Need to find a special phillips one
for 3gp.
Task manager - Tman. (free) I tried a number of these and found Tman to be
the least stressful on my machine.
Launcher - I tried lots of launchers, but finally yesterday I decided not to
use one but to just rearrange my start menu.
That is about it really, the only reason I posted this is that I am
interested in what others use on their PDA for different programs. I am now
happy with how I have it all setup. So what do you all use? Discuss for
something to do :-)

In my infinite cheapskatishness, I chose QMail as an e-mail and
newsreader solution. It's a little quirky but it's free, and one app
solves both needs.

I tried Qmail but it kept giving me problems. I have heard it is usually
quite good though :-)

So what programs do you use Clinton?
Clinton Fitch, MVP-Mobile Devices 12-14-2006, 05:26 PM Beck,
My best answer is actually my Top10 Applications on my site.
http://www.clintonfitch.com/reviews/clinton/top10-2006/default.asp
These are the applications that I "can't live without" and use on a
daily or regular basis.

Thanks for telling me about Pocket Translator. Es muy útil. Pero su

words...

TCPMP for videos

GSPlayer2 for MP3s

RealOne for RealPlayer music and video files

Cybermod for a few old .mod (music) files hanging around from the

Tasks? What are they? :-)

Like you, I use the Start menu, but I find Switch very useful for closing
programs down.
Also:
A host of useful networking/Internet programs such as PocketDHCP, Hosts,
vxIPConfig, vxUtil, ICQ, and FTPView.
Sunnysoft's World Off-line is the one program I use almost as much as
Internet Explorer. It allows me to download my favourite websites all in
one go via the WiFi link with my PC. I can then read them offline at my
leisure without taking up a) a lot of bandwidth, b) most of the contents of
my wallet, c) more than two single-shot lattes at Starbucks. Put this
together with QMail for mail and news and what more could you want. (Yeah,
yeah, I know... Skype...)
PocketFeed is one I haven't had time to try yet, but I'm keeping it onboard
until I can make time. It's for downloading RSS news feeds. But QMail also
handles these.
Acrobat Reader is useful for PDF files
ADBIdea for brainstorming
apMemo for notes with alarms
CabInstall - very useful as I'm using Linux and don't^H^H^H^H^Hwon't run
Windows on my main PC
ConverterCE for finding out how many millimetres there are to the megabyte
Ephemeris for finding out what time sunset is (I like being outdoors a lot)
Eval - a great scientific calculator
FileShredder for keeping personal documents personal
ListPro is one of the best database programs I've come across and is
extremely easy to use
Lucifer - a file encryption program
Magic SS for screen capture
Mapopolis for finding my way around town and country
Metro for finding my way around the local rail network
Mobile Canvas for when I feel artistic
Palm Reader for long train journeys; and short ones
Pocket MindMap - another brainstorming program
PocketVoc for practising my Spanish vocabulary
Sunnysoft's MapView for keeping my own maps onboard
TEA - another file encryption program I'm trying out
Tombo for hierarchical notes
Total Commander puts File Viewer to shame; it also handles the Registry and
network connections
Treesize for finding out which files and directories are taking up the most
space on my PPC and SD card
Tube for finding my way around the London Underground
WinCEPaint for when I need to draw something (e.g. a simple map) for someone
Most of the above are free and the ones that aren't are well worth the money
I paid for them. And it's just as well I've got a 1 GB SD card...

I did try Pocket Feed but could not seen to get the RSS feeds up. I have
settled on pRSSreader or something like that.
I also do use cabinstall.
WinCe Paint I did install but decided I really have no need for a paint
program. All I needed was a program to resize images.

I haven't looked at those, no. I have avoided pay for ones :-)

For launchers, I use cLaunch, very good and simple to use, small footprint
too...
Metro is very good too, the array of maps to choose from is great.
The rest come from default install by Orange/MS.

Up until a few days ago I was using cLauncher, but I have a small suspicion
that it might have been the cause of a shutdown problem I was having.

Edgar 12-18-2006, 05:02 PM I haven't used many other RSS feed readers for my XV6700, but Spb Insight is
definitely worth the money. Not only does it update feeds but it downloads
the entire article for you as well. No need to have an internet connection
if you sync your PPC daily. I sync a few times a day and it automatically
downloads articles for me whenever I am synced. There are a few bugs with
it being such a new program, but in general it works great. Biggest thing
that got rid of bugs and crashes is installing the program itself to main
memory (and the articles can go into the mini sd card).
