The today screen can only display plug-ins designed for the today
screen. You can't just add a random program or shortcut to it.

That said, you can add a plug-in that displays shortcuts for you. There
are a lot of these type of plug-ins out there, including my Launcher app
at http://scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html

You can either try installing that one, or looking around for other
today screen plug-ins that'll fit your needs.

I like also the "TrayLaunch" program (by Ph MAJERUS) which permit to launch
programs by icons in the menu bar of the today screen (very useful)

As others have said, you need a launcher.
I have tried a few this week and my favourite seems to be CLaunch
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=808

It needs a little bit of configuration adding shortcuts, the default is to
have icons with no names, but in the settings for each tab you can set the
icons to have names with them.

I am trying to add Iguidance to the Today screen. I thought that there must be
a way to do it as TomTom has it.

Yes, it's a solution only if you need 6/8 shortcuts (or the 6/8 most used,
for the others you have the program menu and don't forget that each hardware
button could have 2 functions ( tap and tap/hold)

I didn't realise shortcuts would cause a problem. Will they crash the
machine?
