View Full Version : Any way to save all "Settings"?

I need to cold-reset my PPC (Samsung i700, Windows Mobile 2002) and then
re-install everything (I have backups but my registry became corrupted at
some point so I think I need to start from scratch). What I'd like to do is
save all of my Settings (preferences, network/VPN settings, etc.) so that I
won't have to write down and re-enter everything by hand afterwards. Is
there any utility that can save them either in a format where I can restore
them later, or at least just to a text file so I have an easy way of seeing
what they are?

The simplest way to do this is to get your freshly hard reset device
loaded and setup the way you want, then make a "Base Load" backup and
keep it separate.

That way, you can restore from regular backups when needed, but in the
event you get into a system corruption as you just did, you can hard
reset and restore the "Base Load" to make the hard resets a bit more
bearable.

It's also possible to export the registry and manually edit it down to
the keys which contain the settings you want to maintain, then hard
reset and import just those keys back into the registry... obviously not
for the faint of heart plus it obviously contains risks, but, I am still
using program specific keys that date back to the 2000 os to save a lot
of time and labor.
