View Full Version : HP iPaq hx2490
David Wright 12-12-2006, 05:59 AM Is the HP iPaq hx2490 a worthy replacement for the iPaq 4150?
I have had the 4150 for about 3-4 years, and can't fault it, but I need more
memory to install applications, and wouldn't mind the higher-res display and
the ability to use IE landscape.
On the flip-side, the 4150 packs in the Bluetooth, W-LAN etc in a very neat,
slim, light-weight package - I assume there is nothing new quite so slim or
light that does all these tricks.
I did read one review that the hx2490 looks odd with an SD card in it - mine
needs to have one in it permanently - and that there is (was) a battery life
issue, does anyone know or offer another alternative?
Cheers,
D.

2, if you need the same form factor AND bigger (VGA) resolution, get the
Acer n31x.

Laura 12-12-2006, 09:31 AM As far as the IPAQs are concerned I would recommend the 2790 over the 2490.
It will cost you more but comes with more memory.
My favorite IPAQ is the 4150 because of it's size. My friend has one and I
love it, though it is slightly underpowered. I gave her some videos on a SD
card and they run fine on my 2795, but stutter slightly on her 4150.

Not sure why you need more memory to install applications. Are you
installing that many that HAVE to be installed to RAM? You can install most
to the SD card you know. Another option is PocketPC Techs RAM upgrade. On
the 4150 it doesn't give you 128M of RAM, but rather 64 more Meg internal to
install apps to, sort of like a RAM disk. Some programs that don't like to
be on SD also don't like to be on this extra space, but it helps with SD
card swapping. Worked well for me.

Choose storage card to install applications to save memory.
I too have been very happy with my 4150 (preceeded by a 1950 of
exactly the same size) but having my 4150 stolen meant that the
insurance company is replacing it with a 2490.
I do look forward to the extra memory but not the increase in size.
Anyhow I'm currently waiting for the 2490 to arrive and I'll update
with my impressions.
