We have been evaluating a JasJar, which is now about 6 weeks old. The
screen has failed totally to respond to touch and we are in the warranty
process.
I've done a bit of googling but not found much (maybe using the wrong search
words). Are people aware of much anecdotal chat about failure rates on
these beasts?

Have you tried a hard reset? It's possible that the screen was turn off, it
is during the setup for example, and interrupted before it was turn back on.
I've had a JasJar for some time and have found it very reliable.

I've had my beloved JasJar for over a year now and thus far no problems at
all and it goes pretty well everywhere with me so its not like its been
pampered or anything.

Didn't you install a screen protector lately? Also, did you check whether
there's some dirt between the touchscreen and the casing?
The "short circuit" between the touchscreen and the device's casing is the
most usual causes for these kind sof problems.

Like others, I've had a Jasjar for a year now, no problems at all. Very
reliable.
I have seen only two cases (repeated many times) of people with
responsiveness problems in the screen:
1. After installation of a screen protector that isolated the contacts of
the touch-screen; removing the screen protector and reinstalling it in the
right way solved the problem.
2. After someone's trial to turn the screen in the wrong direction. This can
only be solved at a lab.
