First, what brand is the SD card? In each case.

Second, what file system are you formatting it with? Don't just use
the card as it comes - you need to format it; preferably in your
device. Go with FAT32.

Third, had you made a backup? While you will still need to reinstall
any applications that were installed to the card, any other data
doesn't have to be lost. Just use a card reader and copy the entire SD
card to your desktop or notebook PC.

Unfortunately, this "only 1G can be seen of 2G cards" is very common. Also
