View Full Version : Syncing Notes

Hi

I was wondering, the Notes suncing functionality on a WM5.0 device, does it
only work if the item is saved on the device, instead of the Storage Card,
since my items don't seem to be syncing, on my Home PC?

Kind Regards

Active sync ignores the storage card. You would need to install a 3rd party
application to achieve this.
Mobsync is one but you can just use a card reader.
M$ has left the door wide open for developers on the PDA, to make it
functional you need to start loading other vendors products from day one.

Hello,

Unfortunately Notes are only sync'ed if they are in My Documents on
your device. ActiveSync does not sync anything outside of this
folder.

There are, however, several 3rd party alternatives that can help get
around this.

Shame really, since AS is very good and I always think the storage card is
more secure, hence I prefer to write data to that.

BTW, you can periodically and automatically copy your files under \My
Documents to your storage cards on your pDA; I 've just published a tutorial
on all these questions at

Considering all a PPC is able to do, I see it asan analogy to a desktop
PC- a Win98 or XP PC with nothing but the OS installed isn't very
functional. A PPC has a basic PIM, word processor, spreadsheet, media
player, web browser and e-mail client pre-installed. If you want basic
functionality, it's there, if you want fancier functions with more depth
you can buy them.

What I was trying to imply was that in the full sized version it seems that
M$ is slowly trying to shoulder out other contenders. It has graphics
progies, it has always had a share of the office, encyclopaedias, Games,
Music player, DVD even voice to text ETC........ I have seen computers with
nothing but M$ software on them and they seemed to be able to do everything.
I bet Vista goes another step further. The days were there when Xtree Gold
was a must have and you did everything with 3rd party applications. PPC is
just like that now. The OS and a few office tools EM tasol.

My first home internet connection was a nightmare. FTP from dos prompt to
Netscape to download a file to make it work, follow all the instructions,
that took care of more than half my first months connection time. All I had
really heard about the internet at that time was you got a thing called a
browser (Just like a cow) and you typed in WWW.YAHOO.COM . I had done
computing at school but that was with a 2B pencil and cards. 10 Print --- .

You were pretty fortunate to have problems "only" like that :)

I've started over a 300 (which I only had the money to upgrade to 1200 bps
in 1990) baud modem, connecting to a VM/CMS IBM mainframe from home to
access Usenet (it was well before the Web) / my mail. It was a real
nightmare - 3270 emulation royally sucked back then under MS-DOS (and it
couldn't really be hacked - I've tried very hard), the file transfer was
impossibly slow because of the bad protocol implementation etc.

For every post that thinks MS should have provided this that or the other,
there is one asking how to remove a program that is in ROM because it is
unused and taking up space.
