View Full Version : Is there a router/switch application for Pocket PCs?

Hi,

If I want to use a Phone Edition device with its integrated UMTS
hardware as a wireless modem for a laptop there seems to be only a
possibility to connect via Bluetooth or USB. To avoid using a cable
while still getting full UMTS bandwidth I would like to use the much
faster WIFI instead of Bluetooth for connecting to the laptop. In this
case the Pocket PC needs to do the same tasks as a WIFI router.
Is there any software available which enables a Pocket PC to play
wireless WIFI modem for UMTS access?

Regards, Gerd

If I understand you correctly you're saying that you want to use a
PocketPC phone edition device to run a 3G UMTS connection for access to
Broadband internet as well as the WiFi connection to connect to your laptop.

First of all I've not seen any software that does this on the PocketPC
platform, however I'm sure there are applications you could find if you
searched the internet.

Secondly, you mention that the reason you want to do this is because you
don't want any cables while doing this.

How long do you think the battery will last on a PocketPC device that is
running both a 3G UMTS connection *and* a WiFi connection at the same
time? I would expect the average device to last 1.5 - 2 hours at the
most before needing a complete recharge.

Your simplest and best option in my opinion is to forget using WiFi and
use a USB cable.
