I know that many people have the same questions and I am a little
stuck on what to do regarding a PDA and a phone. Nothing has
everything and I don't need everything but there are some big flaws in
each platform.
I had a Sony Clie NX80 and I loved it and used it for everything but
cell phoning. I used it as a GPS, Zagats Guide, MP3 player for the
gym, camera for emergencies, a time recorder for billing, an eBook
reader, and a place to keep important document files for taxes,,etc.
I never liked the way it handled Outlook contacts as it would only
allow for one address. I tried Beyond Contacts but with 3200 contacts
with at least 1/2 with large memos, the system was too slow and would
hardly have any extra memory to do applications.
I like the Dell X51v. I imagine with the VGA screen, it would do a
pretty good job with Excel in landscape mode. BUT, what will WM5 do
with all my contacts and there is no keyboard, like the Sony had and
no camera.
If I get a Q, the screen is too small for GPS and Excel and it's not a
touch screen and I think you need the mini SD cards. If I get the
6700 (Verizon's), how will that handel all my stuff and what happens
if I get a phone call when the GPS is calculating?
I also have an IPAQ 2215 with a damaged Digitizere/Glasstop and my
wife needs a new phone as she is borrowing one after she put hers in
the washing machine. So, If I get a PDA/phone, she can use my cell
phone or I'll keep mine and get a plain PDA.
My fears with the X51v are without a keyboard, it will be a pain in
the ass to type in anything substantial and sometimes I do. I also
worry about WM5 with my large contacts file. I wonder if the Dell
with run the Mapopolis GPS Software?
However, if I have everything on a 6700 or a Q and I loose it, or it
breaks, there will be insurance to replace it for $50.
Maybe I should get the 6700, fix the IPAQ 2215 for GPS and that will
cost about the same is the one Dell, at $372.
Final question, what's it like to type on a 6700?
I know there are lots of issues and many of us face the same stuff.
