When I change my main battery I loose everything in main memory. The
backup battery says it is at 100%. HP wants me to send it back. Is there
anything a skill person can do. I suspect the backup battery is no
holding its own.

I don't think there is much you can do. I believe the backup is likely
soldered to the main board. You might try changing out the main battery
while the unit is connected to AC. I don't suppose it is still under
warranty? If so, send it in. Otherwise, HP or PocketPCTechs for a fee is
probably your best bet, if you can't live with it.

I doubt there is room, but you might just find it possible to stick a
tantalum cap across the battery terminals. That might hold charge long
enough for you to swap the battery.

Just a thought - I have never tried this myself.

I was hoping there was a hey you can do ..... and that will solve the
problem.
I guess I will have to break down and send it back to HP. It is no
longer under warranty....
