View Full Version : Recommended replacement for 2210?
Terry Pinnell 08-08-2006, 02:54 PM I may soon be looking to replace my 3-year old iPAQ 2210, and would
appreciate recommendations please. Essentials include:
- Established reliability/robustness (e.g. no rubber sidepieces that
fall off in a month!)
- CF and SD card slots
- Display of similar/larger size and daylight visibility
I don't currently use the Bluetooth or email capabilities of my 2210,
but I guess I should reconsider with the new model.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated please.

Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev] 08-08-2006, 03:02 PM CF + SD is probably going to cut down your choices radically right off
the bat.
My primary suggestion would be to not tie yourself down to that limit,
but to give it a priority.

Laura Rooke 08-08-2006, 03:10 PM I just got the 2795 and also have the 4700.
The 4700 has a better display, but the 2795 has WM5 and twice the memory.
They both have CF and SD slot.

Brian McMullen 08-08-2006, 04:10 PM I have an Hx2755, which is the older brother to the 2795. It has 128MB of
RAM, 128MB Flash ROM and supports CF & SD cards has BT, WiFi, & IrDA. The
only thing I'd put on the wish list for this PDA is a VGA screen.
Hope that helps

Thanks Laura. At this page
http://www.calculator.org/devices.html
I see the 4700 is 200 MHz, cf 400 MHz for my 2210. Speed of 2795
doesn't appear to be specified there, but at
http://computing.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_16462069/114501.html
I see it's 624 MHz, and has a 3.5" screen - a bit larger than mine.
Still only 64 MB I see - I'd rather thought in 3 or so years that
would have doubled or more.

Thanks Beverly. My investment in 2GB CF and 2GB SD cards makes that
essential!

Laura Rooke 08-08-2006, 07:55 PM the 2795 has 64MB RAM, but 192MB ROM - remember with WM5 memory is handled
differently.

It has 320 MB of Flash now (the B model). These have
been out for a few months.
Memory
384 MB total memory (320 MB ROM and 64 MB SDRAM);
Up to 256 MB user available memory
The lowly 2495B has 192 MB of Flash now.

2 gig sd's are now under $40 and dropping... my point is to not let
investments made last year color this year's decisions, even though I
know that they do.
for example, if you see a device that meets or exceeds all of your
parameters except a cf slot, add the cost of a 4gig sd to it's price and
factor it in.

Thanks both, understood. That makes my 64 MB look pretty pathetic!

Werner \Menneisyys\ Ruotsalainen [MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices] 08-10-2006, 03:45 AM Please note that the chart has several mistakes:
hx4700 is 624 MHz PXA270 (NOT 200MHz Intel PXA 250 XScale (ARM))
iPAQ 3830/3835 is PPC2k2, NOT PPC2k
Axim X5 is PPC2k2 by default, NOT WM2003
Pocket LOOX 710/720 is PXA272 520 MHz, NOT PXA250
and so on.
