View Full Version : Error 0x80072f78 - Internet Pass Through - Active Sync 4.2

Hi,
I've recently (last week) installed Active Sync 4.2 - I'm using a Ipaq
HX2790 with WM 5

Now whenever my Ipaq is in it's cradle it doesn't seem to be able to
use the Internet pass through feature to connect to the internet using
the main internet connection on the PC.

I have 3 programs that now can't update their data - Handy Weather and
1-Calc and Battery Pack Pro

If I switch the Ipaq's Wifi on then they all refresh ok with current
data.

In checking that the Ipaq in the cradle had a internet connection I've
discovered that I now get error 0x80072f28 in pocket internet explorer
on the Ipaq when it tries to get a web page - remove from cradle and
use Wifi and all is OK

Regards

Steve Lowe.

I have also been getting the same problems recently, but did not immediately
associate it with Activesync 4.2 upgrade, but not it makes perfect sense -
also causing problems with my Computer Associates ecurity software.

I have waster hours changing network configs to try and resolve this
problem, to no avail.

Does anyone know if there is a fix available yet?

It may be the newer WM5s that are doing this.
See if this gets you going:

Settings, Connections

ActiveSync mode

Change to RNDIS Sync mode. It'll reset on
the change. When AS connects again, your
desktop "Network connections" gets a new
network, e.g., Windows Mobile-based Device #4.

Early Wm5 may already be in this mode, so
you won't have this AS mode panel to switch.
Pre-Wm5 was different still (Pass-through is
for PPC2003 only, I think).

Hi,

I have the lastest WM, but the problem occured when I upgraded Activesync to
4.2.

This afternoon I removed AS4.2, found AS4.1 on download.com
http://www.download.com/ActiveSync/3640-2178_4-10500222.html

Unbelievably this was the only site still with AS4.1, the rest were all
pointing to MS who have disabled AS4.1 link and only AS4.2 is available.

After removing AS4.1 and installing AS4.1, problems with Internet access
completely resolved. Now I need to see if the problems with CA/ETrust
AntiSpam are resolved as well - apparently well known problem with email
source verication functionalities (anti-phishing) being disabled by AS !!

MS do produce some great software, but the Quality Control completely is
cr@p with major items slipping through such as these that we face.

For reference, while not a factor, my machine is a Qtek9100, also known as
HTC Wizard - it's the best piece of computerised equipment that I have ever
bought, incredible what they have managed to pack in there, while more
useable than the HP equivalents. Superb quality (no i do not work for them,
and no connection to them whatsoever).
