hi all

is there anyone out there can explain 3g services - just I am with orange
who seem to charge by the minute yet other providers charge by the meg ?

How deep do you want? you can Google for 3G Mobile Telephony and get a wide
range of info. Basically it refers to the Third (3) Generation (G) of data
capability over mobile devices. We started with 1G which was 9.6-19.2kb/sec
dataservice, to 2G which is EDGE and the like at 56K - 128K and a little
better. 3G promises data rates of 384kbps to upwards of 2M. That would be
capable of acceptable video conferencing from a cell phone at even the low
end.

It's a matter of technology and data rate. Has little to do technically with
how the carrier wants to charge for data. Except that if they charge by the
data unit you can rack up $ faster with 3G ;)

Thanks Chris, I just can not get my head round Orange charging by the
minute - they must mean for video calls ?
