View Full Version : Toshiba PDA causing crash ?

My Dell laptop (XP, fully up to date) suddenly crashed yesterday with various
error codes - "STOP c000021a (Fatal System error) The session manager
initialization system process terminated unexpectedley" also " BIOS not ACPI
Compliant".
It crashed several times, but I managed to get it stable for long enough to
do a restore. I've done research on ACPI and on the various error codes I
got, and it seems to point to a problem with 'devices'.
Anyway - everything was fine until I re-installed my Toshiba PocketPC e400
and it crashed again within minutes. Unplugged the PDA, did the restore
again, then uninstalled Activesync just to be extra safe, and all seems well
so far.
It looks like the PDA is the problem, but it's been running OK for months -
so why a problem now ? or is this just coincidence and it's actually
something else causing the problem ? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

It's possible that an update to Windows doesn't like your Toshiba. I've had
this kind of problem with other hardware before.

It might be time to retire the Toshiba and go with a new Dell Axim. I got
rid of my Toshiba e740 and bought a Dell x50v. I never knew a PocketPC
could be so reliable and useful.

I've always been a fan of Toshiba, but their PocketPC's aren't so hot, and
they basically abandoned those customers who bought them.

What version of activesync are you using?

In addition, rather than the pda, would focus on the usb (i assume) port
and it's bios settings... some bios' allow manual configuration of port
parameters which could cause a conflict.

Using activesync 3.7.

You're right about it not being the PDA - everything ran fine for a day -
then bombed again, and the PDA isn't connected (and I've uninstalled
activesync ) so it can't be either of those.
Incidentally - I have nothing else using that USB at the moment.

What can I do to identify if I have a problem with the USB port ?

Really grateful for your help - if I can't solve this I'm going to have to
re-install the whole system - not something I really want to do - life's too
short !
