View Full Version : How to set default NOTE size to less than 100%??

Jim Kelly

On my VGA HP iPaq hx4700 the NOTES keep opening at 100% font size
and I have to change the zoom to 80% nearly every time I open one
.. . .

Is there a way to force it to always start at 80% (or even to
offer more options . . . on a VGA display 30, 40, 60% would all
be useful).

Thanks,

Jim Kelly.

start/settings/personal/input/options

Also, make sure there is not a notes template file which might force it
to a different value.

My setting was 75% . . .

Will have a look at the template . . . good thought . . .

Thanks,

I've been looking for that everywhere, thanks.

Hi Beverly,

I found the notes templates in a 'Templates' folder under My
Documents. They were all dated the same date and time (March 1,
2005) so I can probably assume that they have never been altered
.. . . I could not see a way to edit them . . .

When I open a new note it presents 'Blank Note.pwi' at zoom level
75% as expected. I can close and open it several times and it
remains at 75% (did I say 80% before? Sorry) . . . It must be
something else that happens that locks it onto 100% . . . perhaps
if I edit it on one of the two computers that I sync with (my
desktop and my notebook) . . . Another infuriation (new word!)
occurs frequently when I go to edit a note on the high res
displays and it opens in a useless tiny window. I do hope that
the new versions address such oversights that show to me
inadequate use of the product by the developers and lack of
listening to beta testers . . .

Btw, I had a look around your splendid website last night . . . .
Thanks for collating that wonderful array of helpful hints and
great advice!

As I looked elsewhere I found that Tweak2k comes up often as a
very useful tool. I am always reluctant to install/change
anything unless I really want it (the KISS principal guides me
well!), so am curious as to why you have not chosen to list it as
one of your tools too??? Sounds like it may give us some ways to
control the things that annoy us . . . or have you found that
such tinkering gives unpredictable results?

Best wishes,

Jim Kelly

Further . . .
In Outlook > Tools > Options > Preferences > Note Options . . .
there are two settings of note (sorry . .):

Size: Which affects the area of a new note (all settings are way
too small on a high res display . . . ). This does not seem to
make any difference to the result on the PPC.

Font: This setting has a vague effect on font size on the desktop
and on the PPC. By changing it from 10 to 8 points, the result on
the VGA PPC is quite better, but not always!! In all cases the
zoom level had changed to 100 after a journey to the desktop and
back!!! This is the bug that needs fixing!!

Please pass this on to whoever can make it happen.

Thanks.

Cheers,

Jim Kelly

The best way to do this is to create a notes template you want
(including zoom size) then copy it into the templates directory.

You then select it from the notes file mnu/tools/options

Thanks Beverly! That helps a lot!

I decided to try making the template on the desktop computer. I
was then (later) able to see a reduction in font size on the PPC
(even though the zoom rate was 100%).

So, for anyone following along:

1. Start on the desktop in Outlook. Menu Tools > Options >
Preferences > Note Options . . . and change the font to size from
10 to 8.

2. Start a new note in Outlook and type (eg)
Blank Note 8
in the first line. Then close it and synchronize.

3. Using the desktops explorer, reach into the 'mobile device'
and move the resulting file 'Blank Note 8.pwi' from 'My
Documents' to one folder deeper called 'Templates'.

4. Then, as Beverly further explained, you select it from the
notes File/menu/tools/options.

The new notes then start with a smaller font and there is less
need to change the zoom state!!!

NOW, how do I get existing notes to open up with a reasonable
font size??

Beverly, did you care to comment on Tweak2k2?

The only option I know of is to open each of the files, set the zoom,
than tap OK. You seem to be desktop centric, but it's very easy to do
on the ppc itself.

While I don't use it, Tweaks2k has a great reputation here. Don't think
I have ever seen a negative post about it's functions and use.
