View Full Version : Retaining mail on the server
Hi
I am have created an account on an o2 xda exec (windows mobile 5.0) to
receive emails from a pop server (not exchange). I can't seem to find a way
to tell the pop server to retain the emails for x days like you can in
outlook express. Is there a way to do this in xda exec?
Thanks
Regards
No, the mail client on a PPC is set to automatically leave mail on the
server and there is no way to change it.
If you do want to remove mail from the server from the PPC, you need to
delete the e-mail from inbox and then delete it again from deleted mail,
before syncing sending/receiving again.

access Gmail via POP3, right? That's why the mailer client seem to "delete"
the mail off Gmail.

Hi Sven,
I have the opposite problem - I want to be able to read mail on my PPC, then
delete it completely from the PPC (to save memory) but still be able to
download it later on my PC's Outlook which is set to delete from the server
after downloading.
Is there a way of doing it ?
Thanks,
Avi

Mike Edwards 08-17-2006, 04:26 AM Well, according to Sven's message below, that's what happens by default on
the PPC. It downloads the messages, but leaves them on the server for you to
download them again into your PC.
Mike.

Mike,
You misunderstood me - my problem is that when I delete the mail on the ppc
it's being deleted from the server too. the only time when they remain on
the server is when I don't empty the deleted item on the ppc.

My email works as you described (deletes from server when you choose delete)
.... that is logical. If you don't want to truly delete it from the server
then don't delete it from the PPC ... with the WM5 settings you only see X
days of mail in your in box which automatically disappear from the mobile
device when the X days are exceeded. I have mine set to 3 days so stuff in
the in box older than 3 days don't show up on my Treo ... you may want to
modify your settings to a number of days that work for you.

Bruce Johnson 08-18-2006, 10:11 AM Mine has an option under the tools menu to clear "MailboxName".. It appears
to just empty the folder locally.. Is this accurate?
