Hi. I have a personal axim x5 and I now work for a company that uses
lotus notes. If I install activesync on my work laptop, can I sync
lotus and the my x5 (and if so using what software or download)? Or is
it only compatible with outlook?
So, if there is software to connect my pocket pc with lotus notes, what
is it and where can i download it?
Also, the infrared capability on the axim...what is it for? Is it for
wireless internet connection?

this was already answered in the ebooks group ..
the software which comes with WM5 syncs with Outlook, not with Notes.
you really need to look for a product like 'Commontime mNotes' or
similar; IBM also have a product called 'Easysync' for this purpose.
neither of these are free, though.
alternatively, you can get Notes mail with Outlook, then sync - this would
be free but probably
your company wouldn't be interested in setting this up.
infrared is for a very short range local connection, not for the internet.
it can be used for connecting e.g. infrared keyboards or also for file
transfer.
for internet you need a wireless connection (should already have built-in
one).

By default and Microsoft's design, ActiveSync will only synchronize with
Outlook.
You have to purchase a separate product to synchronize your Axim with
Lotus Notes. This is true for any PDA, PalmOS-based or
WinCE/PocketPC/WinMobile-based.
My company also uses Lotus Notes, and I'm in the final stages of testing
new PDA sync products for general use by end users.
These are the major sync products:
1) EasySync Pro
2) Pylon Conduit
3) Intellisync
4) CompanionLink Express
5) mNotes
6) LapLink PDASync
The product I believe that will be chosen for my company is Pylon
Conduit. The main reason is that it's sync settings are stored in a
local Lotus Notes database and not in a separate program, INI file or the
registry. Second, unlike Intellisync, it will carry over alarms
correctly from the calendar. It will also sync e-mail, but that may not
be reasonable, depending on how much/what kind of messages you receive.
Pylon Conduit can be found here:

As far as the InfraRed goes, it's for communicating with any other
InfraRed-enabled device...such as your computer, other PDA's, mobile
phones, printers, etc.
Good Luck...

Hi Tinkerbell,
There are many solutions for this problem. I have made an overview of all
possible solutions at http://www.modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=Windows+Mobile+devices+and+Lotus+No tes.
I am still working on it, but it shows what is on the market (hopefully extending
it soon to become more in-depth).
