View Full Version : RE: Can't browse 1 server's shares

I am running into this issue as well with a client. The only differnce being
it is a single SBS2003-sp1 server environment.
Dell Axim 51v pda.
can surf the internet, can ping the server & vice-versa, can remote control
the server via TS client on the PDA.
Cannot access a share on the server (that has full access to the everyone
group) via file explorer on the PDA.
I am promted for username\password\domain, but none of the 5 accounts I have
tried (including admin) have worked - just asks for username\password\domain
again.
Our objective is to connect this PDA into a database on the server via
client\server (medical) app. I have searched around quite a bit and found
several people running into this issue, but suprisingly no solutions posted.

Any help would be appreciated -

Frustrating huh?

I have a SBS2003 SP1 Server as Well

It works with 2003 Pocket PC

I hear it works with a member server and not a Domain Controller

I bet you it is a security setting in the Domain Controller Policy but I
do not know which one

What do you think

I think you are right - Security Policy Policy somewhere.
It must be looking for something from the PDA that it isn't getting.
Since it is getting correct domain user account credentials, I'm leaning
towards some sort device security setting.
The odd thing that keeps bugging me is, I have no problems remote
controlling the server via TS client on the PDA.
Connecting with the TS client gets around the security policy, but the login
screen via file explorer does not.

Well TS uses one port to connect and then you authenticate once your
connected(Simple Connection)

The security policy states what users can connect via TS

This is why there is no problem

When you access a share on the server the device it self is
authenticating to the server

I know it is something in the domain controller policy I just dont have
time right now to find which policy setting is tripping it out

Also what I would like to know is what is the difference between the way
PPC 2003 and WM5 access a network share

I wish someone from Microsoft would help us on this issue

I have found a workaround to make a WM 5.0 device communicate with a 2003
Domain Controller.

Under Domain Controller Security Policy, expand Local Policies, then expand
Security Options. Change the value for "Microsoft network server: Digitally
sign communications (always)" to Disabled.
Try connecting to the domain controller again from the Pocket PC and it
should work. If not, run gpupdate /force.

This is only a workaround and it would be nice if Microsoft would fix the
bug on the Pocket PC, as this is not a problem with Windows Mobile 2003.
