I have noticed that Pocket Outlook will delete email that you select to
download from a pop3 server. Anything partially downloaded will stay
there, but completely downloaded emails will be deleted. There doesn't
seem to be an option controlling this.
This is WM5, and previous versions did not do this.
Does anyone know how to alter this behaviour? It is astonishing that MS
thought that people would want some emails to only exist on their PDA.

Are you sure
- you dont' explcitly delete / move the mail messages in your Messaging
client to another folder?
- you aren't using Gmail via POP3, which, by default, gives a "read" flag to
all downloaded messages and, therefore, won't let clients download them
again?
In WM5,Messaging does *not* delete POP3 messages over POP3 servers. I've
tested Messaging throroughly (please see my mailer client roundup at
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1 ) and I'm
absolutely sure the problem you're experiencing is related to either of the
above bullets.

I am "using Gmail via POP3, which, by default, gives a "read" flag to
all downloaded messages and, therefore, won't let clients download them
again?"
It seems to me that the problem is not that I can't download the
message again - why would I need to if I already have it? Instead it
seems that the problem is that the message is deleted from my Inbox in
the Messaging client on WM5 automatically each time a send/receive is
performed.
Do you know any way around this? I have to explicitly save off all
messages I don't want deleted during the next Gmail download to a
separate folder, or they will disappear on the next sync.
This also means that I can't schedule Gmail downloads - if I do, the
messages are downloaded and then deleted before I ever get to see them.
Let me just go through exactly what happens so as to be clear -
1) A new message arrives in Gmail.
2) I do a send/receive in my Gmail POP account through the Messaging
client on my WM5 device.
3) The new email arrives in my Inbox on my device.
4) I do a second send/receive on my device.
5) The message disappears from my Inbox on my mobile device.
If I log into the Gmail on the web, my new message is still there in
the inbox, unread. I never opened it or moved it either on the website
or in my POP client on my device.
So you see if I set up my Gmail account in Messaging to check every 15
minutes, I will only see those emails that happened to come in at the
last send/receive - everything else has been deleted.
Any ideas?

The problem is with the default behaviour of Gmail - it will "hide" all the
already-downloaded mail. Unfortunately, it seems not even now that the beta
phase is long over can you effectively override this behaviour - the POP3
radio buttons just don't stick in the Settings window.
Therefore, the best solution IMHO is switching to an alternative e-mail
client that doesn't remove the messages that are not available online any
more from the local view. The alternative mailer clients FlexMail and Qmail
are like so - see the row "Does it only display mail that is still on the
server? " in the comparison chart of my mailer client roundup at
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1 . Of the two,
FlexMail offers scheduling capabilities.
