View Full Version : Switch Off Dell Axim X50

Does anybody know how I switch off a Dell Axim X50? If I press the power
button, it just puts the PDA into stand-by mode and the battery drains. I
want to actually switch it off.

Any suggestions? I have read the manual but it doesn't contain this
information (surprisingly!)

On the x51v, you can go to settings/power/power button and set the power
button to go to "Full Power Off" when pressed and held. This is WM5,
though - I'm not sure you can do a full power off with 2003 (there's no
backup to ROM).

This question is asked every couple of weeks in this newsgroup.
Unfortunately, in enough different ways to make a google search
challenging. I just used google
(http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search) to look up
battery drain backup
and got 93 hits. I took a quick look and am pretty sure you'll find
relevant info and/or leads.

Unless you updated to WM 5, primary storage (pseudo-disk space used to
install apps and store data) for the Axim x50 is in RAM, which
requires constant power. If you really could turn the Axim off
completely, you would lose everything you had installed. Effectively,
you would restore the Axim to "factory fresh".

that being said however, you should be able to keep your axim off (standby)
for weeks without having battery issues. if your battery is draining
rapidly when off, you have other issues. first, check to make sure you
have really turned it off (holding the power button down will turn off the
backlight and fool many into thinking the device is off). check to make
sure that your device is set to turn off after XX minutes when on battery
power (so if it wakes up for an alarm or notification it will turn back
off). check to make sure your activesync settings, and mail settings are
not set to sync on a schedule as this will wake your axim to perform those
functions. also make sure that things like wifi, bluetooth, media player
are not left running in the background as they have all been known to cause
problems when it comes to draining batteries.
