Hi,
I plan to update my system ROM and have carried out a full backup using
Activesync.
I like the look of my current setup (Today screen) and have numerous
applications installed. If I use Activesync to restore my XDA will
I get an identical "copy" after the ROM upgrade and restore???
Does anyone have experience of this operation? Or are there any other
backup/restore apps that I should try?
Thanks Andy

If it is much of a major ROM change at all I would suggest that you write
down the apps you use, copy what data you can to a desktop and/or storage
card, and reinstall everything fresh after the ROM update.
After all, there could be changes in places not expected by your current
registry settings, new DLLS expecting new entries and/or values, etc.
Otherwise you might have unexpected results.
Restoring after a ROM upgrade is not supported, I don't think.
You will have to reinstall everything after the upgrade, fairly painless if
you have installed all the apes from the one desktop computer. Backup all
user created documents on your PDA, everything you don't want to lose to
storage card or backup. In active sync after backing up the documents in the
my documents folder delete the old partnership and then dock the PDA and
create a new partnership. Then in Active sync tools add/remove programs tick
all the programs to reinstall.
It's a pain to do but that's the cost of progress. It does clean up the
registry or any stray dll's.
I would suggest sprite backup for the task of restoring the contacts, email
etc but that should be on the desktop pc and will be restored on the first
sync (in theory).
