View Full Version : WMP 10 keeps opening ActiveSync

I recently yielded to constant pressure to upgrade from WMP 9 to 10.
One immediate downside is that whenever I run WMP 10 it starts up
ActiveSync. I normally have that switched off (with KillSync), as I
resent its constant use of 5% or so of my PC (XP Home) resources.

Is there a setting somewhere that will let me switch this annoyance
off please?

have you set up your device to sync with windows media player (i.e. active
sync 4 now offers automatic WMP sync) or have you set up your device in
windows media player as a sync device ??
those are my only two suggestions as I leave activesync running all the time
so I wouldn't know if WMP triggers it or not.
Sorry

Thanks, appreciate the reply.

I should have mentioned that I still use AS 3.7.1, and I don't think
that has any setting concerned with WMP. Nor can I find any mention of
AS or my Pocket PC in WMP 10. Specifically, under Options>Devices my
PPC is not included.

I don't have a concrete response, which is wy I didn't respond to your
op, but I have observed the same behaviour... when wmp10 is opened, it
appears to open wcescomm to "see" if there is any activesync device
around...

I also have no solution to your (our) need, as, on the machine where I
usewmp, I finally uninstalled AS and returned to syncing on a Win98 box
via wifi.

The ms "need" to have their applications "do what the programmer wants
to do" with zero consideration of the user's needs and wants is a sore
point with many of us that ms should really respond to.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. At least I now know it's not just me!

I found this thread which looked hopeful, especially as quite recent:
http://www.micrologics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=34&sid=eb15e3a3b34f9b40a795e1265eeae5c3#34
But I have been trying unsuccessfully to register in that forum to
raise this variation on the theme. Seemed to register OK, but just
didn't get the usual promised email authorisation. Emailed
support@micrologics.co.uk, webmaster@micrologics.co.uk,
enquiries@micrologics.co.uk and chased once, but still no response.
