Hi,

I used a USB Hotsync-n-Charge cable for my O2 XDA IIi. I wonder if it
would hurt my O2 battery life as I heard that such USB Hotsync-n-Charge
cable doesn't charge as well as the power adapter that comes with the
device.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

I don't about the O2 devices specifically but I've used such a cable on my
Dell and other devices with no effect seen. I would have a hard time
subscribing to this idea anyway given the battery technology used in the
devices today.

My .02,

I don't know what the power output of your adapter is, but the specs on a
USB connection is 5V @ 500mA. My Dell Axim power adapter puts out 5.4V @
2.4A (2400mA). So as far as I've been able to tell, the USB charging cables
have a tough time charging a unit that's on, especially one that's being
used actively (i.e. wifi to surf the web). So I don't think it will damage
the battery or the unit, but it might not charge as fast, as completely, or
at all... But if it does get it up to 100% charged, I think you're good to
go.

Hi Clint,

I'm guessing that for certain devices that requires lots of power, like
ipod with the hard-drive spinning, USB charging might not be ideal.
For PDA phone like O2, it might be alright.

Thanks for the very helpful info on the specs of the USB charger and
the power adapter.

Well, my Axim doesn't have any moving parts, but it does have a 600MHz
processor, and a separate graphics processor. I'd take a look at the power
supply for your O2, and see what it's power output is. Like I said, I can
charge my unit with the power off, so that's sort of useful... Better than
not being able to charge at all! :)

Good luck!
