View Full Version : Axim X51V and a wireless network
I have a Dell Axim X51V connected to my wireless network that seems to work
ok with the exception of one little bug. Apparently, two of my neighbors
also have netgear wireless routers. Each time I turn on the Axim, it
defaults to my neighbors signal (which is unsecured and very faint). How do
I disable all other routers but my own? I want the Axim to not search for
networks but automatically connect to mine.
Thanks in advance,
Jim
P.S. I have been lurking for a while and was able to solve most of the
other issues I have had. If this one has been asked/answered, I must have
missed it. Thanks for all the anonymous help so far.

There isn't really anyway for you to shut off the scanning - this is by
default to allow you to find hotspots quickly.
That said, I would recommend going into the Wireless Utility and tap on the
Settings button with your wireless enabled. You will get a list of wireless
networks around you (your neighbors and your own). If you are connected to
your neighbors, tap-and-hold it then choose Remove Settings. That will
force your device to drop the connection and logically "move" it down the
list. You may have to repeat this several times until your network is the
once it connects to next. Once you get to that point, it should connect up
to your network since it will be the "top" choice.
I hope this makes sense...
Regards,

Thanks Clinton. Will this procedure keep my connection as the top choice?
Or will I need to do this after every soft reset?

DiscoInferno 02-08-2006, 04:26 AM If you have good neighbours I would also suggest that you advise them that
their network is not secure.

Hans-Arno Mielsch 02-08-2006, 12:06 PM In my Axim there is another WLAN client: odyssey.
I configure my network there and enable odyssey to connect to a dedicated
network.
In your case ignore the message from the WLAN utility at startup, start
odyssey and enable it.
Soon it will connect to the right server.

Charles C. Drew 02-18-2006, 01:26 AM You can also get a free wifi utility called "Hitchhiker". You can get it
from a number of websites. It does a better job of finding networks,
connecting to only networks specified by you, and informing you of exactly
what it is doing.
