I have an IPAQ 2210 + 4GB CF Card, the card is empty.
Some weeks ago I flashed the ROM using an update available on the HP
website, this caused problems with Pocket Outlook and in the store
attachments on storage card option (tools/storage)the free space was
reported as being -ve.
Hp support told me to reflash to the original shipping ROM I have done this
and the IPAQ still reports the memory as negative (e.g. -99044kb free).
Pocketpc detects the memory correctly in settings/system/memory so the card
is OK (I have reformatted the card).
I have reflashed, soft and hard reset the Pocketpc several times but the
problem persists.
Any suggestions?
........................... and thanks for your help.

Robin,
I want to make sure I'm following your post right- your iPaq is saying your
4GB CF card has a negative memory available of -99044KB?
If I got it right, have you put the CF card into a reader attached to your
PC just to make sure it is a-okay?
If the card is okay it would seem to me that the flash/reflash process
didn't exactly as planned. I would talk to HP about it first but it may be
work trying the process over again.
Regards,

Thanks for your reply

Correct - I tried a 2 gb card today and there is no problem with that card
as the capacity is reported correctly.

I have done that and re-formatted it.

I have re-tried the flash : twice.
HP have suggested returning the unit to them which I would prefer no to do
as I would lose a memory upgrade (and which isn't the cuase of the problem).
It is strange and I can't find any on who has this problem as well: I was
wondering of the 2210 has a maxmimum CF Card size lower than the 4gb?

Robin,
I've not seen or heard of any limit on the 2210 with regard to the CF card.
The theoretical limit of the Windows CE OS (the underlying OS of the
PocketPC platform) is well above this.
Not real sure what to suggest at this point. I can understand not wanting
to send it in on the memory upgrade...
Sorry I can't be more help. Hopefully someone else will post some
suggestions for you as I'm out of ideas...
Regards,

Clinton
Thanks again for the very quick reply.
Hopefully someone will recognise the problem, but at the risk of being
negative, I'm not hopeful!
But if anyone wants to turn me in to an optimist I am happy to be converted!

May or may not be connected.
I was about to buy a 4Gb SD card for the Exec.
Being concerned that it might not handle it I looked around.
One of the sites (can't remember which) explained why you loose the top 2gig
of a 4 gig card.
It is to do with the way the binary address functions are used if photos are
involved.
Apparently, they will file ok, upto 2gig with and withouth photos.
But if there are photos for some reason the final bit is declaired negative
(whatever that means) and the PPC will reject the card or limit storage only
to the lower 2gig.
This was a photo oriented site and their work around involved downloading
2+Gb of real data onto the card first, so the reported free mem was then <2Gb
and it would store pix without problems.
Odd but it may be connected wiht your problem
