Ian B 01-05-2006, 04:49 AM Well Done Clinton. I bought a PDA a few months ago with a built in GPS. The
GPS being the main reason I bought it, but having found this newsgroup I now
use it with my digital camera and have also now learnt how to convert DVD
films to play on it. Most of the 'freeware' I have downloaded has been
through recommendations from the likes of you folk, so my thanks to you all.

I would have if it was a 200 line message, to save 100 rolls of my
mouse wheel (then again, if it was 200 lines and I was adding "me too"
I'd have trimmed it instead). Personal preference.

To my knowledge it is (a big no-no). Most newsgroups I visit prefer
bottom-posting (/and/ trimmed quotes). Ctrl+End takes you to the
bottom quickly and scrolling can be done with the help of the spacebar
(even in OE). It seems more logical too.
Some arguments pro bottom-posting are found here:

Most newsgroups don't get accessed using two inch wide screens ;-)
IMHO, it doesn't matter how you format your post in this forum, what
matters is that the needs get addressed.

This is an oft-discussed subject in here. There seems to be a general
concensus that this being a Pocket PC group, and due to the exigencies
of using a Pocket PC newsreader to access the group, top posting is
acceptable, or even preferable. Keyboard shortcuts and scrolling
through a message etc aren't quite so convenient in a Pocket PC
newsreader.
Personally, I just go with the flow (literally). There's nothing worse
than mixed top and bottom posting in a thread.
Darren Humphries 01-05-2006, 04:19 PM OK, now I'm confused. ;)
I think I'll go with top posting as that is what most are used to with
e-mail and what works best on these small screens.

I think this is a good argument, although it's a bit controversial. If
a person is using a PPC newsreader and he wants to read the quotes at
the bottom, then he has to scroll down and then back up to read the
reply. If this person isn't planning on reading the quotes, then why
add quoted text (at the bottom)? This way there's more text/data that
has to be downloaded and I don't think a PPC has a fast connection
(does it?). So: less text = faster.

Although many PPC's do have fast connections via wi-fi these days, I
do agree with you in theory, but in reality getting people to trim
their posts is even harder than getting them to consistently top or
bottom post :P. At least with top-posting, the new text in a reply can
often be read without scrolling, and only those with slow connections
suffer from the wasted bandwidth of the quoted text.
I should add that that's not my argument, I'm just repeating what's
been said by some of the group regulars in the past, but it does make
sense to me. This is the only group where I top-post, and then only if
the thread is already in top-posted mode.
<from the website:>"Please note, you will not be able to sync over a
wireless link, just use the network while synced to the PC"
still no wi-fi sync - :-(
