I've got a bluetooth phone. The Axim I have can use that to communicate, so:
when in the office I have it plugged into my computer via the USB
when at home I use the WiFi
when on the road it talks to the internet via bluetooth to the phone and
then via GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) via my phone company. This is
not cheap, but it lets me have email etc to my work when out at clients... I
spend half the week out of the office. Costs me about $30.00 to $50.00 per
month, so it's not cheap, but excellent value for what I do with it.
It's much slower (dialup modem speed essentially) than WiFi.

I agree with what someone else said; you need a computer to install some
stuff via USB or infrared, not all programs come with cab files that you can
download on the PPC and install. But you may be able to use a computer at
work for that.
