There are several PPC's around (for example the JasJar) that use only a
mini usb 5 pin connector for both sync and power.
If anyone is interested, just "pinned out" the mini connector to make a
simple adapter which allows me to use any of the power supplies using a
4mm barrel connector such as the Ipaq chargers.

As always, at your own risk if you elect to make one.

For those of you who have not visited Bev's site, it is a great resource for
these kinds of things. He has pin-outs on several different types of cables
and devices. The link Bev put in his post will take you to all of them.

Very neat and impressive.
I've been content with an alternative. One of my devices came with a
AC power adaptor that has a USB socket. Another came with a "cigar
lighter" adaptor that has a USB socket. So I just use one of these and
whatever USB cable comes with each device.
I also found some adaptors that let me charge cell phones via USB. So
USB looks like a common standard for chargers (the phrase "common
standard" seems as silly as "very unique", but comes closest to my
meaning). It sure has reduced the number of bricks and wall warts I
carry.
I tried recharging multiple devices at once through a hub. I'm pretty
sure it worked the first time. But not after that. I did try a few
other experiments, and one of them may have done some damage.

It will only work if the hub is attached to a PC and all of the devices
have drivers installed.
Otherwise, when plugged in to just the hub, the hub wakes up on plugin,
but when it does not receive usb info from a host, it shuts down power
to the port.
Also, the hub should be powered... unpowered hubs try to subdivide the
power from the single host port, so, it's unlikely that more than one
hungry device would receive lunch.

Clear and concise. Thank you. Having to carry a power brick for the
hub kind of reduces the benefit. Sigh.
