I have the same problem. In addition I'm not able any more
to set a new partnership

I had the same problem so now what I do is turn off my Ipaq before removing
from the cradle. As for the problem of syncing as a guest I just deleted
the partnership then created a new file on my PC to take the place of the
"Pocket PC File" and then put the Ipaq back in the cradle and made another
partnership.
Worked for me!
