We at PDAmill just updated TopKey and EZ Note. The new versions are fully Pocket PC 2003 compatible and fix some quality problems we had earlier. TopKey now also features two tools for the PC, a Data Backup utility to save and restore the learned words database and most importantly a Skin Editor – so you can create custom skins easily from your pictures.

Those who have purchased these products at Handango or PocketGear can download the new version free of charge from the respective online store.

Also, as a sidenote, they have recently released the second public beta of Anthelion.

“We are releasing a 64MB to 128MB upgrade for the HP iPAQ 2200 series. The upgrade does require our proprietary driver and is segmented into 64MB as'conventional' memory (56MB usuable) and 64MB as our Hi-Speed T2T Disk.”

We have spent many hours working on enhancing our driver.

We have updated our driver to support 2003 and it additional 'tweaks'
available to help optimize and speed the system. Three of the 'tweaks' are:

1. Move Avantgo storage to the T2T Disk, reducing the amount of storage
used in 'conventional' memory. Unlike other 'tweaking' programs, our's will
create the folders, transfer the data and delete the original folders.

2. Move Internet Temporary Folder to the T2T Disk, reducing the amount of
storage used in 'conventional' memory and speeding up browsing of downloaded
content.

3. Automatic deletion of temporary internet files upon soft-reset.


The cost of the upgrade will be $159 including 2nd day return shipping (US
Only). As always, this upgrade is not supported by HP and will void the
warranty on the unit. We do offer a 90 day warranty on the upgrade and
motherboard of the unit.

Ronald has reviewed a Sandisk SD card and run a large quantity of benchmarks on it. I have included an excerpt from the review below.

“If you're like me, you are probably running out of space on your Pocket PC or have already filled up the memory. Running out of memory space is a common problem when owning a Pocket PC. There are so many wonderful programs for the Pocket PC that you just can't get enough of and that you want all on your Pocket PC. Or maybe you just have a lot of pictures or music that you would like to store on your Pocket PC. In these types of situations, your best bet is to expand the memory on your Pocket PC…”

The Round Rock, Texas, company said that Axim X5 models–its first and only handheld–running Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC contain a software glitch that reduces their performance on many applications.

Dell recently began offering the Axims X5 with the new software. Instead of introducing a new Axim model to go with the Microsoft software, which came out on June 23, Dell added it to existing X5 model, leaving its basic hardware unchanged.

Since they began receiving Dell Axims with the 2003 software installed, a number of Dell customers have reported a noticeable lack of performance in the newer models versus older models with Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 software….”
