“Based on repeated full charge/discharge cycles on a 64MB unit, the standard battery tested out at 5.5 to 6.5 hours running KeepAlive with the backlight on. Our Hi-Capacity battery has tested out at 9 - 10.5 hours. That is a 63% percent increase! Based on manufacturing tolerances and usage profiles, we are expecting a 25-40% average increase in runtime.”

Unfortunately, Gateway has chosen to delay their PDA again until 2004. Maybe it's because of the problems Dell has had with Windows Mobile 2003 in the Dell Axim.
“Gateway wants to do this right, and there are a few technical details we wanted to work out. We really missed the launch window, and it made more sense to focus on other mobile products through the rest of the year”

“Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced the S3C2440, the world's fastest mobile CPU, with a core speed of 533MHz. The new mobile CPU will drive the emergence of new services, functions and multimedia content for mobile handheld devices such as PDAs and smartphones.
“The increasing popularity of mobile applications is driving the demand for high-performance, low-power mobile processors, ” said Vice President Yun-tae Lee of the Mobile Design Project Team at SOC R&D Center, Samsung Electronics. “Samsung developed its newest 533MHz processor using its unique high-speed process and low-power design technology in conjunction with an optimized power management methodology for high performance operation from a minimal power source.”
The S3C2440 enables value-added end-user features such as camera interface, TFT & STN LCD display support, SD/MMC/SDIO, USB host and device, and touch screen interface. By providing a comprehensive set of common system peripherals, the S3C2440 reduces overall system costs and eliminates the need to configure additional components. “
This chip is based on the .13 micron manafacturing process so power consumption should be less than the current Xscale chips.

Fujitsu has succeeded in cramming 480,000 pixels into a 4in PDA-oriented LCD screen - more than four times as many as current PDA screens sport. Our Palm Tungsten T has a 320 x 320 display. Fujitsu's 4in panel has a resolution of 800×600 - enough, the company claims, to show digital TV pictures. It will also show an entire web page, Fujitsu boasts - but we reckon PDA users will need major eye upgrades if they want to be able to read the text.
Unfotunately this technology is still a couple of years away from actual production!!
