The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has reviewed the HP iPaq 1930/1940 series and HP iPaq 2200 Pocket PC devices and placed the user manuals and pictures on their website.

There seems to be a huge number of different devices in the 1900 series including the iPaq 1930, iPaq 1935, iPaq 1937, iPaq 1940 and iPaq 1945.

Specs are listed below.

HP iPaq 2200

  • Processor: Intel Cotulla (Xscale) 200 MHz or 400 MHz (options)
  • Memory: 64 MB RAM, 32 MB ROM
  • Expansion: SDIO, CF
  • Wireless: Bluetooth (option) + Consumer grade IR
  • Dimensions: 4.50 in x 2.75 in x 0.63 in (l x w x h), rubber grips on side

HP iPaq 1940/1945

  • Processor: Samsung S3C2410 266 MHz
  • Memory 64 MB SDRAM (56 MB main memory)
  • Display: 3.5 inch transreflective color TFT, 240 x 320 pixels
  • Audio: Microphone, speaker, 2.5 mm stereo through audio jack
  • Dimensions: 4.46 in x 2.75 in x 0.50 in (l x w x h)
  • Weight: 4.23 oz
  • Memory Expansion: SDIO

HP iPaq 1930/1935/1937

  • Processor: Samsung S3C2410 203 MHz
  • Memory 64 MB SDRAM (56 MB main memory)
  • Display: 3.5 inch transreflective color TFT, 240 x 320 pixels
  • Audio: Microphone, speaker, 2.5 mm stereo through audio jack
  • Dimensions: 4.46 in x 2.75 in x 0.50 in (l x w x h)
  • Weight: 4.23 oz

It’s interesting that some of these devices are using non intel ARM processors. Could the OEM’s be getting annoyed at Intel and the severe lack of performance increase with the Xscale series?

For everyone out there hoping for an SDIO GPS.
    Your wait is almost over.

“Matsushita is close to releasing a GPS receiver that connects to a handheld through the SD slot.

This GPS receiver will be part of BSQUARE’s SDIO Now! program, which seeks to simplify the process of making peripherals compatible with Pocket PCs. Handhelds and peripherals that are part of the program are guaranteed to be interoperable, without separate drivers for each handheld model being necessary.”

This is good news. Makes a great PocketPC even better. It could also signify the release of a new line of devices. I would assume they are trying to clear inventory before PPC 2003 is released.

“Dell has dropped the prices for both its Axim X5 Pocket PC handhelds. The X5 Advance now has a list price of $325, a $25 reduction. The X5 Basic has been cut to $199, a $50 reduction. These aren’t special prices; they are permanent price reductions.

However, Dell has rarely offered these models for their list prices. It is currently offering a 10% discount off the cost of both, dropping the Advance model to $293 and the Basic one to $179.”

I have completed my review on the Dell Axim X5 Advanced and it can now be viewed here.

Overall I was very happy with this device and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable PocketPC device. I would also like to thank Dell Ireland for the review device.

Overall PPczone rating for the Dell Axim is 4/5

The new HP Ipaq models have begun appearing in various retailer databases according to the Brighthand thread below. There will be 3 models.

The high-end Ipaq 5550 which has an RRP of $649.99 and a release date of 7/13/03.

Two other models were also confirmed by a CompUSA employee. Quote below.

“Hmmmm…found the 5555 (Part# FA146A#8ZP). Also found an Ipaq 1945 and 2215. The 2200 series is no surprise, but I knew nothing about a new model in the 1900 series. $299.99 for 1945 and $399 for 2215. No release date that *I* can see for them.”

Looks like it will be an interesting few months!
