In a move to further increase use of its Pocket PC operating system, Microsoft has now developed a low-cost concept platform in collaboration with Samsung; white box, anyone?

Microsoft and Samsung today unveiled the last conception by the companies to further increase use of Microsoft’s Pocket PC platform in handhelds; a new concept design that the companies claim dramatically lowers costs and reduces product development time for mobile device OEMs and original device manufacturers (ODMs).

The new design incorporates a Samsung ARM9-based S3C2410 application processor and Microsoft’s Pocket PC software, combined with a 3.5″ QVGA grayscale or color display. The Samsung application processor utilizes NAND Flash memory, and MultiMediaCard, SD and SDIO expansion card capabilities are incorporated into the concept design. The design is also smaller than any Pocket PC device currently on the market with its 4.1″ x 2.8″ form factor and a weight of only 2.9 ounces (82 g) for the grayscale version.
