According to an article in Pocket PC Thoughts, there are 2 customer advisories that concern iPAQ 3900 and 3800 users with the latest ROM. The first customer advisory deals with “iPAQ Pocket PC may not launch programs in the ‘Recent Programs’ list”. The second one deals with “iPAQ Pocket PC may automatically power on after a synchronization event”. Advanced Micro Devices is pitching a new low-power memory chip for cellular phones and personal digital assistants.

The chipmaker announced on Wednesday that its new power-stingy flash memory chip is now available to manufacturers. At 1.8 volts, the chip consumes less power than AMD’s standard 3-volt flash chips. AMD has sold 1.8-volt flash memory chips before, but the company says the new one, dubbed Am29BDS640G, will consume up to 95 percent less power than competing products. It will be available first in 64-megabit densities.

Flash memory is used to store data in cellular phones, PDAs and networking equipment. The memory is especially suitable for phones and PDAs because it continues to store data even when its power supply is turned off….

PocketPC Phone Edition is the first device designed specifically to run the mobile phone-enabled edition of Microsoft’s PocketPC 2002. Is this much anticipated PDA/phone, built for VoiceStream by the same company that builds iPaqs for Compaq, the best foot forward for Microsoft’s new OS? Probably not. Having spent several days with the device, I’m ready to tell you why.

In the Microsoft world, the only thing that compares to this device is Audiovox’s Thera. However, the convergence in that device–which runs the regular edition of PocketPC 2002–was managed by Audiovox and not by Microsoft. The device I have in my hands now has the convergence baked into the operating system….
