PocketASP takes standard HTML and ASP applications and runs them on your Pocket PC. These applications are viewed through Pocket IE with no need for special configuration or plug-ins.
-Single development platform
ASP applications can now be developed that will run identically on web servers, standalone PCs, laptops and mobile devices. PocketASP runs on all Pocket PC 2000 and Pocket PC 2002 devices so there is no need to compile different versions of your application for all the different device types.
-Secure Applications
PocketASP achieves all this without the need for a web server on your device. No ports are opened to allow connection from external sources, leaving the data on your device secure from outside attack.
-Both VBScript and JScript
With PocketASP, you may choose to write in either VBScript or JScript, leveraging existing web programming skills.
-Extensive object support
Emulation of ASP’s built in Request, Response, Server and Session objects allows standard ASP pages to be transferred to PocketASP with the minimum of changes. Arne hess of Pocketpcwriter.net has written a review of the Compaq GSM/GPRS sleeve for Ipaq PocketPC’s.
An extract from the article:
“I can recommend the Wireless Pack for everybody how needs professional access to the Net. Non professionals, or user who want to access the E-Mail from time to time only should better think about a Pocket PC/Mobile Phone connection; but again the philosophy behind all Wireless Pocket PCs (doesn’t matter if integrated or like the Wireless Pack) is data centric with voice support, while the new Smartphone 2002 is voice centric with data support. Everybody has to make the decision for himself and I will still use it in future regular, even if I have Bluetooth enabled Pocket PCs and Bluetooth enabled mobile phones.”

Jason Dunn over at PocketPCthoughts.com recieved an interesting picture of a PDA from Canon. Supposedly the device almost went into production but at the last minute it was scrapped after Canon lost faith in the company which was supposed to be producing the device.

“Enterprise Customers, Developers and Content Providers can create custom web based applications built around the Windows Media Player Control for Pocket IE to provide a seamless, rich media experience in a web environment without requiring the user to open up additional applications.
The Windows Media Player control allows multi-media functionality to be added to Pocket PC applications which adds value for consumers as well as simplifies the overall usability of digital media in a Web application. Content can be downloaded and then played back on the Pocket PC or it can be streamed live with a wireless or wireline connection. ”

I have finally managed to get the forums back up and working again. You can visit them here
I am not sure how much longer I will be able to run them for because our current forum software Ikonboard is putting more and more load on the server. I am looking into getting a license for VBulletin but at the moment I just can’t afford it. If anyone is willing to provide us with a copy of Vbulletin in return for some advertising space please feel free to email me @ ronan@ppczone.net
