As more and more handhelds get lost or stolen as their popularity increases, protecting important information stored in the devices that could pose a security risk – corporate or otherwise – is becoming increasingly important, too. Several solutions exist in the market, and SoftWinter has just released version 2.1 of its solution that provides a transparent interface and supports most common Windows CE platforms.

SoftWinter Sentry 2020 for Pocket PC is pitched as an enterprise security tool, but there’s no reason as to why the software couldn’t be used by consumers that want to protect their personal information as well. The software utilizes transparent encryption, provides flexible options for protection alternatives and offers a transparent user interface through its integration with the Windows CE file system. A user can choose which files he or she wishes to encrypt, as well as which algorithm is used. Files are transparently encrypted and decrypted on the fly allowing highest level of security without further user interaction.

The Pocket PC version of Sentry 2020 is compatible with Windows NT/2000/XP versions of the software, and is designed to work on all Windows CE platforms: HPC, HPC Pro, HPC 2000, Palm size PC, Pocket PC and Pocket PC 2002, and will be priced at $50 USD with a free 30-day evaluation available from the company’s website.
